Welcome to the Tom Fagan blog!

Hi, I'm Tom Fagan, I am a San Diego based fine artist specializing in Plein Air, people, places and events. My mediums include oils, acrylic, water color, charcoal, pen & ink etc.. I love to paint events as they take place without using a photograph. Just paint as the scene develops. My Live Event Artist website showcases my wedding and event work.

Morphing the Figure

This is a drawing from August 2015.  The drawing changes from one image to another as the model takes on different 20 minute poses.  You never know what you'll get until the drawing is complete.

Largest Live Wedding Painting

Here is the largest live painting of a wedding ceremony at the St. Regis Resort in Dana Point, California. that I've done so far. 30 x 40. I actually painted two paintings that day, both 30 x 40, which took me 13 hours and every ounce of energy I could muster. I wish I could show you the second painting, the one of the reception, but my camera's battery died on me before I could finish the painting.

Las Vegas

Here I am, Saturday night on the Vegas strip, to paint the goings on. I position myself next to the Bellagio fountains because I loved the composition that developed in front of me, with the Eiffel Tower and the Paris Globe, etc. After 4 hours of catching spray from the fountains, 46 degrees seemed more like 36.
This was early on as the night flew by.
Try this one: work on your painting while motorcycle cops' lights are flashing on the canvas. It's a real challenge.

Here's the finished product. Thanks for viewing my art!

Chicago Painting

Here is a painting done in Chicago last July, live of course. It took nine long hours, but well worth my efforts, as the bride and groom were ecstatic with the results.

Tom Fagan painting on Fifth Ave captured live

A candid photo taken of me last Friday while I was busy at work painting the Grirardelli's painting.

Tom Fagan Live Painting with little girl Downtown

Last Friday, when I was painting in the Gaslamp, a little girl and her father were walking by and the little girl took notice of me painting and was very interested in what I was doing. So with a little guidance, I let her contribute to the painting and put her own creativitity onto the canvas.
